Monday: How does spirituality work to improve mental health? As a starter, spirituality is not a flight into denial, and God is not an aspirin that takes away all manner of suffering.
Tuesday: The egoic mind erects barriers in an attempt to keep us safe, but they only increase our suffering. With God’s grace, the loving goodwill of others, and a dose of our own courage, we can begin the process of letting go of our self-protective walls.
Wednesday: The ego is incapable of either protecting us or guiding safely through life’s storms. The soul, by contrast, is absolutely adequate to meet all of life’s challenges.
Thursday: When you are feeling weak or fragile, simply tell the truth. Do not say you do not know the truth, because that is not true.
Friday: Trying to nurture good feelings about ourselves is like nailing Jell-O to a tree; it just doesn’t work. We would be wise to let go of the whole concept of self-esteem, at least as a desired goal. Focusing on self-respect is the proper orientation. I’m not talking about self-respect as a feeling or an emotion, but as a behavior.
