Without a pure heart it is impossible to live a truly happy and meaningful life or to evolve spiritually. It is crucial that our lifestyle fosters a pure heart within us. As a starting point, a pure heart is one that is unified in a particular direction; it is not blown here and there by whims, moods, fads, desires, or impulses. A pure heart is open to change, but never overrun by chaos. To have a pure heart is to will one goal, one prize, and one outcome above all other outcomes. Dharma is the foundation to a pure heart.
Dharma represents the principles of moral goodness, or “a righteous path” in Christian terms. Moral goodness protects the heart, enabling it to remain clear, focused, and steady. It takes a pure heart for us to be able to realize our noble aspirations. When Dharma becomes a way of life, we think more clearly and make better choices that arise from within our hearts. Most significantly, when we engage the world from our hearts, the world gives us better choices, because the world is always giving back to us what we give to it. To the degree we operate from a pure heart, God’s grace comes to us so as to remove any and all karmic obstacles that confront us. It is not that God loves us more because we live according to dharmic principles, but because we live by those principles God‘s goodness is able to find a receptive space within us.
Divine Mother,
Help me to remember
That following my holy dharma
Will protect my heart
And help me remain
Clear, focused, and steady.
