Monday: There is no love without the freedom to reject love. Otherwise, we would be nothing more than biological machines. In giving us the gift of free will, God rolled the dice at the time of our creation.

Tuesday:  In the final analysis, what we see happening in the Ukraine is a manifestation of evil. We must walk a razor-like line when it comes to evil. We have to acknowledge its existence and operations; yet, if we become obsessed with evil, we lose our conscious contact with God’s grace. Then we become part of the problem. For this reason Jesus said, “Be as innocent as doves and as clever as serpents.”

Wednesday: History bears testimony to a force that engenders enormous levels of violence, oppression, and destruction, not to mention ignorance. Call it what you will, but to deny the reality of this force is arrogant foolishness.” The great psychologist Carl Jung stated, “Evil is terribly real, for each and every individual. You can just as well call it the devil.”

Thursday: As extreme as Putin is, we must all avoid seeing this process unfold in another person, entity, or nation while remaining blind to our own shadows. Though there is much good unfolding within the evolution of the human race, it is also impossible to deny that a certain level of degeneration has crept into our cultural and civic lives.

Friday: Everything that happens in creation happens within the consciousness of God. Nothing catches God by surprise, including our most self-destructive behaviors. Without ever violating our free will, God works within all of our choices to serve a divine purpose: our highest evolution. If we are going to properly come to terms with the reality of suffering and evil, we must do so in this enlightened context.
