The resurrection impulse has been operating within the story of the human race since time immemorial. For starters, witness the process of evolution as the generative force of grace. The liberation of the Jewish people from the yoke of slavery was the fruit of regenerative forces operating within the theatre of history. The civil rights movement championed by Dr. Martin Luther King was obviously guided by the spirit of truth and love. Every alcoholic rising above the hellish grip of addiction does so on the wings of heaven’s angels. The point is this: the resurrection impulse is available to each one of us; it is our birthright as children of God.

How do we access the resurrection impulse? Resurrection has nothing to do with the pursuit of happiness. Happiness as we in modern times understand it lacks depth and a sense of wonder. Furthermore, it does not deal with the horror of the degenerative forces operating within the human arena. Rather than seeking happiness, we must seek lives of adventure, courage, and generosity, lives that gamble everything on God’s goodness. Like Moses, we align ourselves with the resurrection impulse by climbing the highest mountain we can envision in the eyes of our soul, which will allow us to commune with God as Moses did. Of course, to climb this soulful mountain we must travel light; we must let go of all that is not worthy of us. Yogananda tells us, “You must not let your life run in the ordinary way; do something that nobody else has done, something that will dazzle the world. Show that God’s creative principle works in you.”

Divine Mother,
As your child,
Resurrection is my birthright.
Give me the courage and generosity
To claim it.
