God’s footprints are everywhere; we only have to open our eyes to see them. As a starting point, creation is one big footprint. Biologists can tell us how life unfolds and how cells divide, but they cannot explain the origin of life or life itself. The great inventor Marconi stated, “The inability of science to explain life is absolute.” Why is this so? Life is the Breath of God that enlivens all living things, that gives life to your body and my body. Our lives and all of life are a participation in the one Divine Life. Yogananda tells us, “God is the life surging within us.” In the same spirit, Saint Bonaventure tells us, “We may behold God in the mirror of visible creation, not only considering creatures as footprints of God, but also seeing God in them.” You and I are alive today because God is breathing life into us right now at this very moment. The life surging within us is God’s footprint, proclaiming the truth that we are known, that we are precious, and that God is lovingly with us and within us. Our bodies are a scripture which proclaims the goodness of God!
