It is not easy being a human being. We come into the world with a veil of ignorance over our eyes, and we are then baptized into a culture steeped in delusion. No wonder we stumble in the dark, hurting others and ourselves in the process. If the truth be told, we cannot really help ourselves. For these reasons, God’s mercy is important, even essential. What is the meaning of God’s mercy? The root meaning of the word mercy means gift, grace, kindness, compassion, and so forth. God loves us not because we are good, but because God is good. Therefore, God’s mercy is an offering of forgiveness, and forgiveness is an invitation to open our hearts so as to once again break bread with God, no matter how dark our deeds. No sin is beyond the gift of heaven’s grace! God’s mercy trumps karma, but only if we avail ourselves of it. Whatever you are doing, know that all is forgiven. Today is a new day and a fresh start. Embrace what God offers you!
