Monday: God’s mercy is an offering of forgiveness, and forgiveness is an invitation to open our hearts so as to once again break bread with God, no matter how dark our deeds.

Tuesday: We are in need of mercy because we all fail to a lesser or greater extent to live up to our ideals. Don’t we all have regrets? Our regrets can lead us to experience debilitating despair, crippling guilt, and toxic shame. These difficult emotions will suffocate our hearts with pain and fear.

Wednesday: Only love is capable of receiving love. Like energy attracts like energy. If we do not return God’s love with our own love, then we short-circuit the energetic flow of restorative mercy.

Thursday: Like any energetic force, God’s mercy has to flow in order to bring about healing and transformation. What does this understanding of God’s mercy mean for us in our everyday life? If we fail to extend mercy to others, we short-circuit our capacity to receive that mercy. If the flow of God’s mercy stops with us, then it stops for us.

Friday: I’ve been writing all week about mercy. Today I want to connect our receptivity to mercy to the experience of meditative silence.
