Monday: What was true in the book of Genesis is true now: there are no perfect people, no perfect systems, and no perfect institutions. There never will be.

Tuesday: In recent years, we have rightly moved away from any understanding of God that involves any notion of a vengeful or punishing deity. We have rightly described God as love. But what we have failed to realize, at times, is that love has many faces, manifestations, and expressions. Love (God) does whatever is needed to evolve a situation and the people living within it.

Wednesday: Much good can come out of chaos, but chaos for the sake of chaos only results in great suffering. Chaos can be addictive. I say this because chaos is often accompanied with a kind of electric excitement and an adrenaline high. Anarchists appear to thrive on the intoxicating effects of unbridled chaos. So,how do we bring deeper levels of truth, beauty and goodness out of the chaos?

Thursday: The Franciscans became the change they longed to see in the Church and in the world, thus elevating both the Church and medieval Europe toward a higher, more life-giving culture. I am not saying that there is no place for legitimate, respectful debate. But there is little of that happening at the moment. Our public discourse has become largely polemical and destructive.

Friday: The dignity of every human being is grounded in the reality that we have been created in the Divine Image, regardless of race, color, or creed. Therefore, the healing and future well being of our nation must include a resurgence of authentic spirituality. What is an authentic spirituality?
