This week, Kriyabans from the Assisi Institute will share their spiritual journey as Isha Das turns to other work on our behalf. Today’s reflection comes from Swami Shantima Miller.
“Will power is that which changes thought into energy. Work for the highest and noblest goal without attachment.” Yogananda
A wrenching segment of local news startled and proceeded to bloat me with anger, a fierce reaction that persisted for a full day and consumed my thoughts without purpose.
After a day of discord, the cumulative effect of a committed meditation practice ultimately conveyed its vital message: PAUSE! A concentrated act of will directed my attention to the sacred breath cycles of inhalation, pause, and exhalation.
I breathed into the third chakra located near the navel region where the potency of will whirled. I imagined a furnace that required tending — not too much tinder or too little. Meditatively breathing into this petaled lotus ignited a surrender of emotional will to Divine Will.
Jesus’ “I am the gate,” statement (of the third chakra) proclaimed that a force flowed through an opened gate and ascended to the higher octave, to the receptive heart and grace of the Divine Mother. Her subtle essence eased and gently drew me into spacious relief. Peace.
Pause!
Surrender
Emotional will to
Divine Will.
