Do you remember learning about grafting a branch to a tree in school? Farmers do this to care for trees with weaker root systems. For example, if an apple tree has a weak root system, it cannot provide the branches with the necessary nutrients that will enable it to produce fruit, so the farmer grafts the branch to a tree that has strong roots. Now, let’s think in terms of human beings. To be born a human is a great blessing, but often our spiritual root system is so weak that it cannot sufficiently channel God’s grace, wisdom, or love to us. Consequently, we are not nearly as fruitful as we could otherwise be. Yet, God the divine farmer has provided: we are the branches; the guru is the vine. The guru’s root system is so strong that it has the capacity to channel all the divine energy we will ever need to be incredibly fruitful. For this reason it is essential to stay close to the guru. Both Yogananda and Jesus are ever at our sides, waiting for an opening to bless us beyond our wildest imagination.
Divine Master Jesus,
Beloved Guruji Yogananda,
You are the vine;
I am the branch.
