To use yesterday’s metaphor, if we want to reach our full potential to bring truth, beauty, and goodness into the world and our own lives, we must graft our consciousness to the consciousness of the Guru. In order for the grafting process to be successful, the vascular tissues of the branch must be perfectly aligned to the vascular tissues of the limb of the tree so that a union may be formed. In this way, the life-giving sap of the tree’s root system feeds the branch all that it needs to produce fruit. So, what grafts us to the Guru’s consciousness? First of all, do we love the Guru, truly and deeply? There is no door that love cannot open when it comes to God and Guru. Secondly, do we trust the Guru’s teachings more than we trust our feelings? If we trust the Guru’s teachings, our emotions will sooner or later embody the energy of joyful love. Thirdly, do we ask the guru for help? Do we invite the Guru’s wisdom into all areas of our lives? Fourthly, do we try to emulate the Guru and embody him or her in our thoughts, words, and deeds? Lastly, do we thank the Guru for all the blessings that have been and will be showered upon us?

My Guru,
Graft my heart,
Mind, body, and soul
To your divine energy
And consciousness.
