The process of grafting ourselves into the consciousness of the Guru does not happen automatically; it unfolds not on an obvious or materialistic level, but in the depths of our souls. Spiritual grafting involves a conscious choice to merge with the Guru’s mind and heart. At all costs, we must avoid passivity because passivity is the enemy of spiritual living. Passivity leaves us open to karmic influences, compulsions, and external influences. Our will is not primarily an organ of perception, but action. It becomes strong to the degree that we make wise and loving choices. Everytime we make a choice to love, serve, honor, and conform our lives to the Guru’s wisdom, our conscious contact with the Guru deepens, and the grafting process takes hold. In becoming one with the Guru, we become the best versions of ourselves.
