God is neither a bearded old man nor an entrancing goddess. God is not a being among beings, not even a supreme being. Rather, God is the Root of all Roots, the Sourceless Source of everything and everyone, the Ground of all Existence. We draw our very existence from God’s Beingness. God’s underlying presence perpetually sustains everything and everyone. Therefore, we don’t have to run here and there searching for God, and we are free to let go of our happiness projects. Why? Because our souls are forever tethered to God’s soul; otherwise, we would cease to exist. Through prayer, meditation, and silence, we must learn to dive into the interior depths of our own hearts. What do we discover there? God’s simple, blissful presence and the fulfillment of the one desire that is at the core of all other desires: union with God. While fulfilling all of your duties today, stay anchored in your own soul, in God, and see how effortless everything becomes.
