Between the ages of twelve and sixteen, I essentially raised myself. Though I relished my freedom, I often felt overwhelmed by the many tasks it took to manage my life. The summer before my junior year of high school, a priest arranged for me to live with a loving and solid foster family. After a period of adjustment, a sense of lightness began to envelop me. I no longer had to worry about a roof over my head, food on the table, or making important decisions all by myself. I could rest in the love and strength of my foster parents. They took care of life’s business for me so that I could be an adolescent. Likewise, all of our lives unfold within the context of God’s wisdom, love, and protection. We are first and foremost God’s beloved children and only secondly adults. Everything we have comes from God, including our abilities to plan, to work, to love, to create, and to provide for ourselves. God, who is both father and mother, has gifted us with everything we need to live happy and dignified lives. No matter where we are or what we are doing, we always have God’s full attention and provision. In order to experience this freedom, we just have to be willing to embrace our status as children of God.
Divine Mother,
I always have
Your full attention
And provision.
