“Solvitur ambulando”
“It is solved by walking.” Saint Augustine
September 25 to October 2
Walk. Pray. Meditate. Laugh.
When we take time to be with ourselves, with God, things happen. As we all struggle toward the same goal, to finish the walk with a little grace, our egos release their hold on us. The struggle is very important. We walk, we struggle, and in that process, things happen that we don’t understand. Walkers and support volunteers are needed!
*The Assisi Camino will consist of about 75 miles at a rate of between 8.5 and 11.5 miles per day.
*We will start in Avon, hike south through Letchworth, and return to Avon.
*Several days of the trip are on relatively flat terrain; others are more hilly.
*Our comfortable accommodations include two nights at the Abbey of the Genesee, two nights in cabins at Letchworth Park, and three nights at Dave Bryson’s home in Mt. Morris.
*Each hiker will carry a small pack; larger items will be transported by the support team.
*Cost for hikers for the entire trip is $400. Hikers may ask for sponsorship to raise funds for The Assisi Institute.
*Joining the Camino for part of the time is possible!
*The support team will provide meals, necessary transportation, and other essentials. The support team is welcome to join the hikers and stay the night.
From Herb Tierney: “Everyone on the Camino is a pilgrim; there are no leaders. We support each other and walk at the pace of our slowest brother or sister.”
