The greatest challenge facing humanity today is not Covid, the environment, or social justice issues, but the countervailing forces of meanness, divisiveness, and cruelty. If God is Beauty, then evil is ugliness, which is on full display in our modern culture. Beauty is much more than a pleasant experience. It is literally a spiritual force, the force of God’s love manifesting within creation. As such, beauty harmonizes contrasting elements, tribal divisions, and competing perspectives, organizing them in a manner that gives birth to peace, joy, reconciliation, cooperation, unity, new possibilities, and the beloved community. We align ourselves with the harmonizing forces of beauty first and foremost through meditative silence, interior peace, and a tender heart. We nurture harmony in our daily lives by choosing to serve others, sincerely listening to others’ perspectives, being peacemakers, and imbibing our words and actions with beauty. In heaven, everyone bows to beauty; beauty is what makes it heaven. If we want heaven in our day-to-day lives, we must bow to beauty, and if we want heaven on earth, we must learn to flow with its harmonizing energies above all else.
