While our external lives are often very complex, our internal lives can be exceedingly complex. Our souls, however, are radically simple because they are a reflection of God, and God is the very essence of simplicity. God does not have conflicting thoughts, diverse feelings, or confused motivations. God is just God: eternally simple and unchanging. Therefore, the more we move away from the complexities of our minds and identify more with our souls, the more Godlike we become. If we have two coats and we encounter someone who has none, we give him our extra coat. When in doubt, we tell the truth. If someone asks for our forgiveness, we give it because God is the very essence of mercy. Instead of trying to squeeze happiness from people, places, and things, we cherish the simple joys of life: friendship, a hearty meal, and good-natured laughter. We effortlessly become full of gratitude because we know all good gifts, no matter how ordinary, have been given to us by God. Finally, we become less obsessed with ourselves, especially the compulsion to fix ourselves.

Divine God,
Help me
To keep it simple.
