We are all swimming in the turbulent waters of steep and dangerous life challenges. Mere human cleverness cannot save us from our self-destructive impulses or the external threats that inevitably come our way. We need a transcendental intelligence, an enlightened wisdom, and divine guidance. But does God actually guide us? And how do we avail ourselves of this guidance? Do we even really want to be guided by God?
Let us begin this week by remembering that both Jesus and Yogananda affirm the truth that God does indeed communicate to the human race. Jesus stated, “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” Yogananda entitled his seminal commentary on the Bhagavad Gita God talks with Arjuna. This sure understanding that God talks to us individually and collectively will neither lead us to fundamentalism nor a theocratic form of government. But this certainty of God’s communication will ground us in the further understanding that God is the primal ground of all that is true, good, and beautiful, and by extension, all that is truly intelligent, rational, and moral.
Divine God, Beloved Guru,
Today, let me be sure of this:
At every moment,
You wait to communicate with me.
