AS_Slider_Panels_2014_PW_02

All interested walkers, of all ages and faith communities, are welcome to join the founders and members of the Assisi Institute on Saturday, June 14th, for their 6th Annual Peace Walk 2014. This event is an opportunity for people of all faiths, religions, traditions, and spirituality to briefly come together in the common interest of promoting a global and local vision of perpetual and enduring peace.

While celebrating the visions of many other faith traditions, the Assisi Institute will lead the celebration with its own unique vision of promoting peace. The Assisi Institute is “a place of stillness, silence and peace for those who seek a more intimate experience of God communion – in the spirit of Saint Francis and Paramahansa Yogananda.” We believe that peace starts with each individual. Through the practice of personal meditation, individuals can help to create a culture that nurtures agents of prayerful action and meaningful change.

THE INSPIRATION FOR THE PEACE WALK
On October 27, 1986, Pope John Paul II convened an historic gathering of diverse believers in Assisi, Italy for the purpose of praying for peace. Imagine the Pope, the Dali Lama, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Protestants, Christians, Catholics, Native Americans, and other believers standing shoulder to shoulder, praying for peace, in the spirit of Saint Francis. Together, they expressed a universal hunger for harmony among all of God’s children.

HERE’S HOW THE WALK AND THE FUNDRAISING PARTS WORK TOGETHER
Walkers of all ages and faiths are welcome to participate. As a general participant, you do not have to pledge any money nor make a donation in order to join in. Everyone is welcome.

Walkers may collect pledge donations from sponsors – either by registering to raise funds online or by paper pledge forms.

If a walker is raising money on behalf of a nonprofit organization associated with the walk (other than Assisi), fifty percent of the money raised will go directly to that nonprofit organization, and the remaining money supports Assisi’s mission.

Individuals who are not affiliated with a nonprofit organization are welcome to participate in the walk.
