God is not a proposition to believe in or not, but a life to be lived and loved. The first time I held my sons Nicholas and Michael, fatherhood became much more than a theory; it became a spirit to be rejected or embraced. Embracing it meant that I would be carried along by a stream of love that was going to take me where I would not otherwise go, but where I needed to go for my own evolution. We know God only by participation, by loving God and leaping into that river of grace and mystery. Today, let us all decide to give up our resistance to love. Let us yield to all of God’s overtures toward us. In this way, we can begin to make earth into a heavenly paradise.
I can know God only by participation,
By leaping into the river of grace and love.
