“Father, if it is possible, let this cup of suffering pass from me, yet not my will, but Thy will be done.” Jesus

Perhaps the most audacious aspect of Jesus’ teaching was his implicit trust in the loving providence of God, even in the midst of profound suffering. For Jesus, every moment was a sacrament of God’s presence. Every moment was pregnant with divinity, and every experience was an occasion for grace. In order for us to be able to experience what Jesus experienced, we must nurture soft eyes; we must view life not with calculating or quantitative eyes, but qualitative eyes. We must interpret our experiences with a wide lens, a spacious heart, and an open mind. We must always remember that we never see how everything fits together perfectly in the grand design. What we don’t know is far more important than what we do know! Thus, we must learn to pray as Jesus prayed: “Not my will, but Thy will be done.”

As you wish, Beloved God, as you wish.
