It is not easy being a human being because we live between heaven and hell. Heaven is the consciousness of God’s truth, beauty, and goodness, and hell is ignorance, fear, and malice. At the present time and for the foreseeable future, planet earth is a mixture of both heaven and hell. This dichotomy is especially excruciating for sensitive souls, those awakening to their divine essence. I say this because we operate with an intuition of a beautiful, just, and loving divine order that we desperately crave, yet to expect earth to be anything other than a mixture of darkness and light is a recipe for profound suffering.
We get through this ordeal by grounding ourselves in our eternal and changeless souls, what Yogananda referred to as the Self. We know we are living from our souls because we can witness the world with unprejudiced objectivity. In those moments, we are capable of experiencing a transcendental peace that has nothing to do with what is happening externally. As well, we live our lives with a sense of personal mastery: the mind, imagination, will, and passions are under the influence of God’s grace, the Guru’s blessing, and our own souls. In this way, we become a blessing not only to ourselves, but to the world at large. A life of living from the soul is possible for all of us if we are willing to put in the effort.
Divine Mother,
Never let me forget
That you have given me
The way to sanity and serenity:
The peace and power of my soul.
