We take for granted a profound mystery that unfolds within us each of us every day of our lives: our capacity for conscious awareness. We are aware of our bodily sensations, feelings, and thoughts. Still further, we are aware of qualitatively different moods and experiences. For example, we know when something makes us happy or sad. Most significantly, we have the capacity to be aware of our choices and intentions. To be human is to be awake and aware, and to be awake and aware is to be God-like. For this reason we must fight such temptations as a sleepy consciousness, vegetative awareness, group-think, or the passions of an angry mob. Jesus called our conscious awareness “the pearl of great price.” Let us never take it for granted! Today, if we breathe and stay awake and aware, we will have taken the first step to God-Consciousness.
Divine Mother,
In great simplicity,
Help me to breathe
And to stay awake and aware.
