I’ve been writing all week about mercy. Today I want to connect our receptivity to mercy to the experience of meditative silence. As a starting point, the experience of deep silence is a manifestation of God’s mercy because such silence is a sign that God is near. When heaven is present, we necessarily become more peaceful and quiet. When we are within the silence, our guilt and shame disappears. Still deeper, sacred silence is the space that allows God to impress our minds and hearts with inspired and hopeful possibilities. In the silence God whispers not only words of forgiveness but words that hint of the glorious future that awaits us.

In the stillness,
You will come to me
With merciful healing
And forgiveness.
