I will close this week’s reflection on King Arthur with the theme of the Holy Grail. The Holy Grail was believed to be the very chalice Jesus used at the Last Supper which contained the liquid grace of the blood of Christ. According to the legend, King Arthur tells his knights to look for the Holy Grail not in a temple or a church, but in the dark forest. This means that spirituality is not a direct flight into enlightenment. There will be times when we must come to terms with our interior darkness, ignorance, and attachments. The cloud of our interior darkness can also be a manifestation of our egoic impatience. Yet whatever the source of our darkness might be, it will come to an end and more light will certainly come our way. We must always hold onto the truth that those who have chosen God have truly been chosen by God. Mira Alfessa, who was known as “The Mother” in Sri Aurobindo’s ashram, left us these prayerful words: “Pierce this darkness, let light flash fourth; still this tumult, establish peace; calm this violence, let love reign; become the warrior, triumphant over obstacles; win the victory.”
Beloved,
If I have chosen you,
Then you first
Have chosen me.
