“Obedience to the guru is necessary for attunement with his wisdom. It is not slavery to follow the wish of a God-realized guru, because his wish gives independence and freedom. A true guru is the servant of God, carrying out His plan for your liberation. Realize this and you will always obey until you find perfect freedom in Spirit.”
Yogananda

As I stated in yesterday’s reflection, Jesus’ initial response to Mary’s request that he turn water into wine was an emphatic no: “Woman, it is not my time.” Jesus and Mary had different timetables. Embodying the mind of God, Mary would not take no for an answer and instructed the servants to do what Jesus told them to do. Jesus relented; he obeyed. We all have our plans, timetables, and schemes as to how  life ought to unfold. Then, something happens: a tragedy, a health issue, a divorce,  a financial crisis, or even a pandemic. These events are in conflict with our agendas, plans, and demands. When this occurs we can get angry, curse God, and stew in resentment, or like Jesus, we can let go, trust the process, and surrender our will to God’s will. In essence, Mary said to Jesus, ‘Give me your mind and I will give my heart; give me your will and put heaven’s highest forces at your command—so that you will be able to turn water into wine.” In the same way, the Divine will transform our stubborn egoic awareness into the sweet wine of God Consciousness.

Guruji, you say to me,
“Give me your mind,
And I will give you my heart.”
