Without the life-giving energy born of God’s Spirit, there would be no life on planet earth. Of course, there are different types and forms of energy. The electricity that lights our homes, the gasoline that fuels our cars, and the food we eat are all forms of energy. What is unique to humankind is the fact that “we do not live by bread alone.” We require the highest form or manifestation of energy, the energy of love. The energy of love has various nuanced manifestations: hope, faith, generosity, joy, peace, strength, and courage. I dare say, these manifestations of love are lacking in today’s world. Humankind is weary and haunted by the shadow of hopelessness.

This is where Christmas comes into play. At that first Christmas over 2000 years ago, planet earth was flooded with a stream of rejuvenating love because Jesus was and is the embodiment of God’s loving energy. In each successive celebration of Christmas it is as if the heavenly vaults are opened wide and planet earth is once again flooded with the rejuvenating elixir of divine love. Yogananda tells us that the spiritual vibrations are very high during the Christmas season. My prayer for all of us is that we will take the time to open our hearts in prayer, meditation, and the joyful celebration of Christmas so that we can be refreshed and renewed by the energy of God’s love. We need it and the world needs it!

Master Jesus,
With each successive Christmas,
You are born anew.
Once again,
We welcome you with great joy.
