One of the best metaphors I have ever heard for the soul is the multifaceted diamond. The soul is indeed a multifaceted reality. Among those facets are wisdom, strength, endurance, compassion, joy, peace, intuition, discernment, and, of course, love. The more truly we live from our soulful depths, the more these facets become a living reality. When we need wisdom, for example, wisdom will bubble up into our awareness. When we need strength, our soul’s fortitude will necessarily sustain us. When true compassion is needed, it will flow through us. Our task is simple, though not always easy: pray and meditate, nurture a state of surrender to the Divine, stay awake and aware, let go of our agendas, seek the truth, maintain a state of inner detachment and silence, and endeavor to speak and act from a place of love. For every step we make in these directions, God will flood us with heaven’s light.

“Emulate the diamond
In your dealings with people.
Brightly reflect the light
Of God’s love.”
Yogananda
