Yesterday, I wrote about the yogic concept of the buddhi mind, that part of the human psyche that can think, reason, and perceive reality without prejudice. Another of the buddhi mind’s capacities is intuition. Intuition is not the repression of intelligence, but the marriage of our finest intelligence with superhuman wisdom, the conscious link between the human mind and the divine mind. Intuition is human intelligence bowing to a transcendental intelligence that is above and beyond its own powers of reason. In turn, this transcendental intelligence floods the mind with supernal light, thus bestowing an inner knowing or certainty. Paradoxically, this supernal light helps the buddhi mind to see and understand what otherwise would not be seen or understood. How do we discern actual intuition from mere subjectivity? Jesus gives us the answer in this way: “You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? So every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.” Translation: if our intelligence is truly guided by the mind of God through the intuition, then the fruit will be obvious. We will conduct our lives in a manner that supports, enhances, and evolves life. We will exude the fragrance of virtue, and virtue will give rise to peace, joy, and selfless love. Living in this way, we will move planet earth in the direction of paradise.

Lord Jesus,
Beloved Yogananda,
Help me to see,
Really see.
