It might be helpful to broaden our understanding of service. In serving people, we are actually serving their highest good in many diverse ways. Serving a homeless person might involve providing them with a hot meal or getting them to a homeless shelter. At times, serving our children means that we discipline them. As long as the motivation is love, speaking an uncomfortable truth to a person mired in self-destructive behavior is serving their highest good. Saying no to an unreasonable request is a form of service. Refusing to be abused is a form of service to the abuser and to ourselves. It takes wisdom to know what truly serves the highest good of another person; such wisdom is always born of humility, prayer, and meditation. When in doubt, seek the guidance of God and Guru.
Let my service
Always be done
In love and truth
