Whether we realize it or not, we are presented with choices at every moment of our existence. What are we going to focus on? What is captivating our attention?  What is the energetic force we are internalizing? These are not esoteric questions! Our lives take on the tone and texture of our affections, allegiances, and alliances. As St. Clare teaches us, “We become what we love.” Most importantly, our lives become a divine love affair to the degree that we love God.

The process of waking up to God’s love, of divinizing our lives, starts with meditation. The choice to meditate wakes us up and attunes our awareness to the scent of God’s truth, beauty, and goodness. Then, we pay attention to our spirit, intuition, and internal guidance system as we move through the day. I am not talking about a form of perseveration or obsessive thinking, but simple wakefulness and the capacity to consciously choose what we aspire to become. Sri Yukteswar taught us, “Human life is beset with sorrow until we know how to tune in with the Divine Will, whose ‘right course’ is often baffling to the egoistic intelligence. God bears the burden of the cosmos; he alone can give unerring counsel.”

What am I focusing on
In this moment?
Divine Mother,
Help me to choose you.
