Monday: Children come into the world much more connected to God. The fruit of that connectedness is that they laugh, play, and exhibit far more joy than the average adult. They have a natural transparency to truth, beauty, and goodness.
Tuesday: We can’t achieve a state of purity though our own willpower. Purity, which is an attribute of the soul, arises only when we no longer depend on our own cunning, control, or manipulation to feel safe. It is the natural fruit of trusting God’s goodness, love, and protection.
Wednesday: Turning to one of his cardinals, Pope Innocent observed, “We have made so much of original sin that we have forgotten about original innocence. That little beggar from Assisi embodies original innocence.”
Thursday: Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is in our midst. He means that all we need to live fully and freely is available at all times. But it comes at a cost: we must be willing to surrender our complexity at the feet of God’s simplicity.
Friday: All of our lives unfold within the context of God’s wisdom, love, and protection. We are first and foremost God’s beloved children and only secondly adults.
